Shetland Cross Cheviot Sheep
Shetland cross Cheviot Sheep are a great all round ewe.

Our Shetland cross Cheviot sheep are wonderfully hardy cross bred sheep who make a cracking lamb and a decent fleece.
The shetland bred is ideally suited to our hilly, cold environment and is largely unimproved. We cross these with a Hill-Type Cheviot Ram to produce a larger ewe. Then this cross ewe forms the part of our meat flock, she is exceptionally hardy and produces 1-2 lambs per year. This cross ewe can easily rear twin lambs as she has plenty of milk, and is very protective of her young.
Fleece Characteristics
These cross ewes are significantly larger than our pure shetland ewes, so the fleece is larger, at around 1.5kg / 3lb 5oz. Whilst still being a good manageable size for a home spinner.
Our fleeces are raw and organic, so they have not been processed or sprayed with nasty chemicals. We do use a small amount of marking spray on these ewes to show which ones are carrying twins so need more feed; should any be left on the fleece is will easily wash off.
The Fleece is a shorter staple length than our pure Shetlands, and is around 4 inches at most.
The fleece is greasy and rich in natural lanolin.
